Akpabio Sparks Niger Delta Firepower for Tinubu’s 2027 Victory

LagosExplorer reports that Senate President Godswill Akpabio has declared an unshakable commitment from the Niger Delta to back President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027. Speaking at the 25th anniversary grand finale of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in Port Harcourt, Akpabio made it clear that the region is standing solidly behind Tinubu, praising his administration’s remarkable developmental strides across the Niger Delta.

Akpabio, addressing an elite gathering including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume (representing Tinubu), Rivers State Administrator Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, and other prominent figures, hailed President Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented federal attention to the region. He cited landmark projects such as the Environmental Sciences University in Ogoniland, the Maritime University in Okerenkoko, and multiple institutions focusing on agriculture and technology as proof of Tinubu’s strategic vision for the Niger Delta.

“The entire Niger Delta is united. We have assessed President Tinubu’s performance and we say with one voice: he deserves another term in 2027,” Akpabio declared. He emphasized that the era of division and underperformance was over, noting that the President’s approach has restored dignity and hope to the region.

The Senate President did not shy away from addressing the historic failings of the NDDC, blaming the abandonment of over 14,700 projects on leadership instability and constant political infighting. He praised the current Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, for bringing long-needed continuity and stability to the Commission, stressing that consistent leadership is now delivering results.

Former President Jonathan also threw his weight behind the current administration’s continuity strategy, commending Tinubu for retaining the NDDC board. He noted that without stable governance at the Commission, meaningful development would remain elusive. In a written message delivered by SGF Akume, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the region, highlighting the ambitious Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a transformative project set to boost economic growth and regional integration.

From education to infrastructure, the Niger Delta is witnessing what Akpabio called a “new dawn of prosperity,” driven by Tinubu’s inclusive governance and firm political will. The message from Port Harcourt was clear: the region is no longer on the sidelines—it’s rallying front and center for 2027.
