Akume Appoints Yomi Odunuga as Media Adviser

Veteran journalist and columnist, Yomi Odunuga, has been appointed as the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

Odunuga, a respected voice in Nigerian journalism, brings over 27 years of experience to the role. Born on June 2, 1966, he began his media career with The Punch newspaper, where he worked as a proofreader before rising through the ranks to become the State House Correspondent. During his time there, he authored two well-followed columns: Life in Abuja and Inside Aso Rock.

He later joined The Nation newspaper, where he served in several senior editorial capacities, including Abuja Bureau Chief and Deputy Editor (Nation’s Capital). His widely-read column, formerly known as Knuckles in The Punch, was revived as Knucklehead in The Nation, providing a weekly critique of Nigeria’s sociopolitical landscape.

In 2019, Odunuga was appointed Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the then Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. Until his latest appointment, he was a Deputy Editor at The Nation.

A statement released on Thursday confirmed that his appointment by the SGF takes immediate effect.
