Three years after the tragic loss of his son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, Afrobeats superstar Davido has stirred emotional reactions with a brief but powerful tribute shared on his official X handle. The singer simply wrote, “Ifeanyi David Adedeji Adeleke RIP LEGEND!!”—a statement that resonated deeply with millions of fans around the world.
Ifeanyi, who drowned in October 2022 at the family’s Banana Island residence, was just three years old at the time of the heartbreaking incident. Following the tragedy, the Lagos State Police confirmed that an autopsy revealed drowning as the cause of death. Eight domestic staff were initially taken in for questioning, although no formal charges were made public.
Since the incident, both Davido and his wife, Chioma Rowland, had maintained a low profile regarding the loss, choosing instead to grieve privately. His latest post marked the first time he openly addressed the tragedy in such a direct and emotional way.
The message, though brief, attracted over 1.9 million views, thousands of likes, reposts, and a wave of supportive comments from fans, celebrities, and sympathisers across social media.
In a past interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden in 2023, Davido had described the period after Ifeanyi’s passing as the most difficult time of his life, noting that the support of his wife and the birth of their twins brought him back from the depths of grief. The couple later tied the knot officially in June 2024, with their twins arriving in October 2023.
