Moji Afolayan: “I Was Blacklisted for Refusing Sex”

Veteran Nollywood actress Moji Afolayan has revealed that her 14-year absence from the movie industry was not voluntary, but the result of being deliberately blacklisted by influential directors after rejecting their sexual advances.

In a heartfelt interview, Afolayan shared that her refusal to trade her body for roles came at a heavy professional cost. According to her, she was openly told by a marketer that a clique of filmmakers had agreed to deny her acting opportunities because she refused to sleep with them.

The actress, known for her powerful roles in Yoruba movies, described how hurt and betrayed she felt when the blacklist was confirmed to her in person.

Despite the emotional toll, Moji Afolayan said she never considered compromising her values for fame. Her decision to speak out now shines a light on the abuse of power and sexual exploitation that many actors face behind the scenes in Nollywood.

Afolayan’s courage has reignited critical conversations about integrity, exploitation, and the culture of silence that has protected some of the industry’s worst practices for far too long.
