The family of late former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, top government officials, world leaders, and millions of Nigerians who mourned with them over his passing.
In a statement issued by presidential spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, on behalf of the family, Malam Mamman Daura, a senior member of the household, said the immense show of love and solidarity has been overwhelming and comforting in their time of grief.
Daura specifically thanked President Tinubu “for leading Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora to honour the deceased President, including visiting Daura, Katsina State to personally condole with the family.”
He added, “His bold decision to rename the Federal University of Technology, Babura in Jigawa State after the late President was a profoundly touching gesture.”
The family extended appreciation to “Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, for their support and presence.”
International tributes also poured in. The family said they were humbled by messages from “His Majesty, King Charles III, UN Secretary-General António Guterres and his deputy, Amina Mohammed, the leaders of the African Union and ECOWAS, and many world leaders and former Heads of State.”
Daura acknowledged “the acting Governors and their deputies, members of the National Assembly, Emirs and Chiefs, religious leaders, the business community and thousands of everyday Nigerians who visited or sent messages.”
In particular, he recognized “Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Alhaji Abdul Samad Rabiu, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi, Alhaji Dahiru Mangal, Mr Kola Adesina, Alhaji Nasiru Danu and many others in the private sector” for their unwavering support.
“The family is comforted by the immense outpouring of sympathy and prayers,” he said, adding, “This loss is irreparable, and its pain is beyond words.”
The statement ended with a prayer: “May the Almighty Allah bless and reward you all.”
