Uba Sani Stuns Kaduna with Free Fertilizer for 100,000 Farmers

In a bold push to combat hunger and revive agriculture, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has rolled out a groundbreaking fertilizer distribution programme targeting over 100,000 smallholder farmers across the state. The initiative, unveiled in Kaduna, is part of the government’s wider food security strategy aimed at empowering rural farmers and strengthening agricultural productivity.

Governor Sani said the programme was designed not only to support food production but to lift vulnerable communities and tackle poverty head-on. According to him, the fertilizer support will boost yields, reduce the burden on struggling farmers, and move Kaduna closer to food self-sufficiency.

As part of the intervention, each beneficiary will receive two bags of fertilizer completely free of charge. Commercial farmers are not left out, as they will access the same input at a 40% subsidy. The governor insisted that the process would be fully transparent, with a monitoring committee made up of stakeholders from civil society, religious institutions, traditional leaders, security agencies, and anti-corruption bodies to track the distribution.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Dabo, highlighted that the state is setting the pace with agricultural reforms and investment, saying Kaduna has already surpassed the budgetary expectations of the Malabo Declaration signed by African countries. He noted that the programme reflects Governor Sani’s commitment to creating an agricultural revolution that benefits both rural and urban communities.

The governor reaffirmed that his administration will continue to prioritize food security, empower farmers, and drive sustainable development through aggressive investment in agriculture.
