Atiku Declares: “I Want a Better Nigeria, Not Presidency at All Costs”

LagosExplorer reports: Former Vice President and 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed claims that he is desperate to occupy Aso Rock, insisting that his priority is the future of Nigeria and not his personal ambition.

Speaking at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) affirmation ceremony in Lagos on Saturday, Atiku—represented by Ola Olateju of Achievers University—explained that his political journey has always been driven by the dream of building a stronger, united, and prosperous nation.

According to Mr. Olateju, “Atiku Abubakar’s plan is to build a better Nigeria. So, it’s not about him being the president. It’s about having a better government, a good government, that will be able to deliver for Nigerians. It’s not a personal thing for him and that’s why some of us are with him. It’s not about Atiku must be president at all costs. ADC, to us, is not a political party. It is a movement, a movement of Nigerians for a better Nigeria.”

Atiku, who has contested for the presidency several times, has remained a central figure in Nigerian politics for over three decades. His remarks come at a time when speculation is rife about his next political move ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Lagos event also witnessed the formal defection of several politicians from the PDP and Labour Party to the ADC.
