LagosExplorer reports: Popular Nigerian singer, Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka, has set social media buzzing after describing marriage as “a stupid step,” insisting that wealth, not matrimony, is what brings him happiness.
The Running (To You) hitmaker made the remark during an interview with media entrepreneur Chude Jideonwo on the WithChude podcast, where he opened up about his personal beliefs, career journey, and life priorities.
“In my personal opinion, in fact, I think it’s a stupid step to get married,” Chike said pointedly, stressing that his views were shaped by his own convictions rather than societal pressure. The 32-year-old singer, who is celebrated for his romantic ballads, went on to emphasize that money remains his biggest source of joy. “For me to be happy, to be honest, I need a lot of money. This is not even carnal; I won’t lie to you, I like money. I want money,” he declared.
Chike also reflected on how his music career unfolded, revealing that he only began to take it seriously after completing university. “Maybe right after my university, I knew music is what I’ll do for a living… I just used to sing and disturb everybody around me,” he said. He further disclosed that the early stages of his career were so difficult that he had to rely on acting gigs for about two years to survive.
Chike, who rose to fame after his remarkable stint on The Voice Nigeria, continues to maintain a strong fan base with his soulful songs. However, his latest remarks are bound to ignite even more debate about the changing views of Nigerian celebrities on relationships and family life.
