LagosExplorer reports: The Dangote Group has promised full medical and financial support for Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, who lost her leg in a horrific accident involving one of the company’s cement trucks in Edo State.
In a statement on its official X handle, Dangote Cement confirmed that senior officials and its insurance team had visited both the accident scene and the victim in hospital. The company expressed regret over the incident and assured that Ruth would receive comprehensive medical care and compensation in line with its welfare policies.
The incident occurred just six days after Ruth graduated from Auchi Polytechnic. Eyewitnesses said a Dangote cement truck ran over her leg, leaving her critically injured. She was rushed to Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, where doctors were forced to amputate the limb. Confusion remains over whether she was walking or riding a motorcycle at the time.
According to witnesses, the truck driver attempted to flee the scene but was intercepted by a lecturer who pursued him after the crash. The case immediately drew public attention when Phyna took to Instagram to accuse the company of trying to shield the driver, alleging that the truck’s number plate was removed on instructions from its management. “Na money you get, you no be God. But my God is bigger. Enough is enough,” she wrote.
Public outrage has continued to grow, with veteran Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw joining other Nigerians in demanding justice and transparency in the handling of the case.
