LagosExplorer reports: The Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) has appointed Dr. Abdulateef Shittu as the new Director-General of its Secretariat, in a move designed to reposition the body as a modern hub for policy coordination and governance innovation across the country.
According to Punch Newspapers, the appointment was confirmed after a Deloitte-led structural review of the NGF Secretariat, which recommended sweeping changes to strengthen intergovernmental relations and improve policy delivery among Nigeria’s 36 governors.
Dr. Shittu’s emergence as Director-General is viewed as a critical step toward achieving greater synergy among state governments, particularly in areas of economic policy, security coordination, and human capital development.
In addition to Shittu’s appointment, the NGF also named other top officials to key leadership positions. Edmund O. Nnaji was announced as Director of Finance and Administration, while Professor Dauda Olalekan Yinusa takes over Policy, Strategy, and Research. Dr. Ahmad Abdulwahab will head Programmes and Partnerships, and Barr. Chuku Chijioke Chuku has been named General Counsel and Head of Energy.
Also on the list are Mrs. Hauwa Haliru-Hassan as Director of Gender Affairs and CEO of the Nigeria Governors’ Spouses Forum, Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Katsina as Senior Security Adviser, and Mr. Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi as Director of Media and Strategic Communication.
The NGF Secretariat, which serves as the coordinating arm of the 36 state governors, said the appointments reflect its renewed commitment to effective governance, stronger partnerships, and more impactful reforms at both national and sub-national levels.
