PDP Names Top Governors for 2027 Race

LagosExplorer reports: Political momentum is building ahead of the 2027 presidential election as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rolled out a line-up of some of its most influential governors as possible contenders, setting the stage for an intense face-off with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

At a press briefing in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, revealed that the PDP’s National Elective Convention will take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025. The decision, along with the zoning of the party’s presidential ticket to the South, was officially endorsed during the party’s 100th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting—a move political analysts believe could boost Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s standing as a leading contender.

Ologunagba named Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Makinde, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, and Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri as potential presidential flagbearers, describing them as leaders with the vision and capacity to restore Nigeria’s lost glory.

“The PDP remains the most compelling alternative to the APC,” Ologunagba asserted. “Our governors are performing exceptionally in their respective states, and we are committed to presenting a credible candidate who can transform this nation.”

In a firm warning to party members, the spokesman emphasised that anti-party activities will no longer be tolerated, urging unity, loyalty, and discipline as the 2027 elections draw closer.

Observers say the early unveiling of strong presidential hopefuls is a strategic move to rally the party’s base, dominate the political conversation, and position the PDP as a formidable challenger in what is expected to be one of the most competitive presidential races in Nigeria’s history.
