Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki Elected PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary
Ibadan, Oyo State – LagosExplorer reports: In a historic moment for Nigeria’s opposition politics, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has successfully concluded its Elective National Convention at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan, electing Dr. Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN) as the new National Chairman and Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja as National Secretary.
The convention, attended by over 3,000 delegates from Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), signals a significant step toward party unity and renewal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The proceedings, which began on November 15 and continued into the early hours of November 16, were marked by efficiency, enthusiasm, and transparency. Senator Ben Obi, tasked with overseeing the electoral process, guided delegates through a voting system that highlighted the PDP’s commitment to democratic principles.
Dr. Turaki, a former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, emerged as the near-unanimous choice for National Chairman following the withdrawal of rival aspirant Senator Yakubu Lado, making him the consensus candidate to lead the party into its next phase of resurgence.
Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja, previously Deputy National Chairman (South), was elected National Secretary, completing a leadership team seen as experienced, capable, and well-positioned to strengthen PDP’s presence across Nigeria.
