FG Declares September 5 Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration



The announcement that Friday, September 5, 2025, will be observed as a public holiday in Nigeria has stirred excitement among Muslims nationwide as the Federal Government confirmed the day for the annual Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration. LagosExplorer reports that the declaration was made in a statement issued by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.


In his message, the minister congratulated Muslims across the country and around the world on the Prophet Muhammad birthday celebration, urging them to embrace the Prophet’s values of peace, love, humility, tolerance and compassion. “The celebration of Eid-ul-Mawlid offers us yet another opportunity to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and imbibe the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the statement quoted him as saying.


He further encouraged Nigerians to use the Eid-ul-Mawlid holiday in Nigeria to pray for peace, security, and stability while also supporting government initiatives aimed at unity and sustainable development.


With the declaration, Friday, September 5 officially joins the 2025 calendar of public holidays in Nigeria, giving millions of Muslims the opportunity to celebrate the religious occasion with family and community.
