United Labour Congress (ULC) has demanded N96,000 as a national minimum wage for government workers in the country.

The ULC said that some state governments who are willing to pay the wage would not find the figure too high, but could easily accommodate it within their various revenue streams.
Mr. Segun Esan, the General Secretary of Nigerian Union of Railwaymen (NUR), in his presentation on Thursday to the Committee on the New National Minimum Wage Public Hearing held in Lagos, observed that Nigerian workers ranked among the most poorly paid in the world.
Out of the 21 countries selected in the sub-Saharan African, Nigeria ranked 18th with $50 wages per month to workers.
Some of the countries with higher minimum wages than Nigeria are Burkina Faso, $138, Congo Democratic Republic, $68, Ethiopia, $77, Kenya, $331, Madagascar, $128, Tanzania, $149, Congo Republic, $145 and Ghana pays $128 as minimum wages to workers.
