NIMC Restores NIN Verification Services Nationwide After System Outage

LagosExplorer reports that the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has fully restored its NIN verification services across Nigeria following a temporary shutdown caused by routine system maintenance.

The disruption, which affected key sectors including banking, telecommunications, and public institutions, had triggered widespread inconvenience for Nigerians dependent on the system for daily transactions and official processes.

According to the Commission, all affected systems are now back online and fully operational. NIMC urged citizens and service providers to resume normal use of its verification platform, assuring the public that the maintenance was essential for long-term efficiency and security. Nigerians who need to register for a new NIN or update their records—such as name, date of birth, or address—can now proceed through authorized enrolment centres or via the Commission’s self-service portal.

The restoration of services brings relief to telecom subscribers who had faced delays in SIM registration, number portability, and reactivation, as well as to banks that had temporarily suspended certain identity-linked operations. The Commission also encouraged users to take advantage of its official mobile application, designed to streamline verification and improve access to digital identity services.

NIMC expressed appreciation for the patience and understanding shown by Nigerians during the brief service disruption. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to delivering a more reliable and accessible national identity infrastructure for all citizens, promising that the system upgrade would enhance future service delivery and data protection standards.
