LagosExplorer reports that former Sports Minister Solomon Dalung has issued a scathing prediction about President Bola Tinubu’s political future. When asked about the upcoming 2027 general elections, Dalung declared that even if Tinubu installs his son, Seyi, as INEC chairman—and even if he appoints his wife to the position of Chief Justice—he will still lose.
Dalung insisted it would be “us against them,” describing the current administration as one that “weaponized poverty, hunger and hardship” and waged “war against the Nigerian people.”
According to Dalung, making high-level appointments or engineering mass defections of the 36 state governors to the APC will not change the outcome. He emphasized that the elections will be determined by Nigerian citizens rallying behind the emerging coalition movement, with the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) positioned as the core platform to challenge Tinubu in 2027.
His remarks come against the backdrop of intensifying economic and security crises that have left many Nigerians disillusioned with the government's performance. The APC, meanwhile, officially endorsed Tinubu for a second term at its Abuja summit in May. Yet, Dalung’s words signal a deepening confidence among opposition figures and growing optimism that the tide may be shifting.
As Nigeria prepares for its next democratic showdown, Dalung’s bold forecast underscores the belief that widespread public discontent and a more organized opposition base could outweigh even the most entrenched political machinery.
