LagosExplorer reports that the Lagos State Police Command has arrested a fuel station manager for allegedly diverting petrol from legitimate sale to clandestine channels.
During a coordinated operation by the Rapid Response Squad on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway near Otedola Bridge, the station manager and an assistant were detained after officers discovered the station withholding fuel sales to motorists, choosing instead to hoard supplies for black‑market distribution.
Internal tanks were found to be full, contradicting claims of a shortage, and significant volumes were being siphoned into jerry cans and secret storage.
The arrests highlight the state’s intensified crackdown on fuel diversion and hoarding practices that drain public resources and undermine market fairness.
The police have initiated investigations into the fuel station’s operations, noting that this case is part of a broader pattern of illicit fuel syndicates operating in the region. Authorities emphasized that hoarding or diverting subsidized petrol for private gain is illegal and detrimental to the community.
The suspects are expected to face charges related to economic sabotage and fuel theft. Lagos State Police have pledged further actions to dismantle these syndicates and ensure transparent fuel distribution.
