President Buhari Receives New Chairman Of Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, on Friday, May 25, received the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), Musiliu Smith.
The Nigerian President received the new PSC chairman at the State House in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, @AsoRock, an official Twitter handle of the Federal Government confirmed on the micro-blogging site.
It tweeted: “President @MBuhari today received former Inspector General of @PoliceNG, Mr Musiliu Smith at the State House in Abuja”.

ALEDEH recalls that the meeting is coming a day after the President appointed Mr Smith as the new PSC chairman.
Mr Smith, a former Inspector-General of Police, is to succeed Mike Okiro, also a former Inspector-General of Police as the PSC Chairman.

Nigeria’s Senate President, Bukola Saraki read President Buhari’s letter seeking the confirmation of Smith’s appointment and those of three others on Thursday, May 24, during the Senate plenary.
The letter noted that President Buhari based his request on sections 153 (1) and 154(1) of the constitution as amended.
“In compliance with the provisions of section 153 (1) and 154(1) of the 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, I write to forward for confirmation by the Senate the underlisted names as the chairman and members of Police Service Commission (PSC). I attach here, with their CVs,” the president’s letter read.
“In anticipation of the early consideration and confirmation of the above appointments by the distinguished senators, please accept, Mr Senate president, the assurance of my highest consideration”, the letter added.
Apart from Smith’s appointment, the other appointees are Clara Ogunbiyi (full-time commissioner), north-east; Lawal Bawa (full-time commissioner), north-west and Mohammed Najatu (member) north-west.
