FG Declares Holiday to Honour Late Buhari

FG declares Tuesday as public holiday to honour late Muhammadu Buhari

In a rare mark of national reverence, President Bola Tinubu has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday to honour the late former President Muhammadu Buhari. The announcement, made by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, follows a week-long mourning period earlier declared by the Federal Government. According to the Minister, this solemn holiday is aimed at allowing Nigerians reflect on the life and legacy of a man who once steered the affairs of the nation with what many saw as unwavering integrity and patriotism.

The decision also comes with a directive for all national flags to fly at half-mast, symbolising the gravity of Buhari’s departure and the significance of his contributions to Nigeria’s political history. President Tinubu, who approved the holiday, urged citizens to remember Buhari’s ideals and embrace unity, peace and national cohesion in his memory. As the country pauses in solemn respect, prayers are being offered across the nation for the peaceful repose of the former leader’s soul.
