The National Assembly has announced the immediate suspension of all legislative activities in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed on at the age of 82. This directive, issued jointly by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, was conveyed through a formal statement by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana.
“I am directed by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that all legislative activities in the National Assembly are hereby suspended immediately until Tuesday, July 22,” Ogunlana declared.
He further urged all lawmakers to adjust their schedules to enable full participation in the late president’s burial rites, emphasizing the gravity of the moment.
In the statement, the leadership of both chambers, on behalf of members and staff, extended their heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Nigeria, the government and citizens of Katsina State, as well as to Buhari’s widow, children, and the entire Buhari family.
Ogunlana noted that Buhari would be remembered for his unwavering dedication to national unity and his enduring legacy of integrity. He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the former president, asking that his soul find eternal peace in Aljannatul Firdaus.
