Olamide Honoured as Bariga LCDA Renames Charly Boy Bus Stop After Him

The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State has officially renamed the popular Charly Boy Bus Stop to "Baddo Bus Stop" in honour of indigenous rap icon Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Baddo.

The announcement was made by the outgoing LCDA Chairman, Hon. Kolade Alabi David, during the unveiling of several community projects in Bariga on Friday, July 26, 2025. These projects include newly constructed roads, schools, healthcare centres, and a fire service station—all aimed at improving the standard of living for residents in the area.

As part of the renaming initiative, several other streets and landmarks within the council were also renamed to reflect the legacy of notable Nigerians in music, politics, and sports. Ilaje Road is now King Sunny Ade Road, Bariga Road becomes Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, and Community Road (Akoka) has been renamed Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road. Ajidagan Street now bears the name Olamide Adedeji (Baddo) Street, Ifeanyi Street is renamed Abolore Akande (9ice) Street, Ayodele Street (Ladi-Lak) is now Tony Tetuila Street, and Ilojo Crescent (Obanikoro) has been renamed Bukayo Saka Street.

Charly Boy, the veteran entertainer for whom the former bus stop was named, offered a brief reaction when contacted. In his usual outspoken tone, he simply responded, “Na dem sabi,” leaving room for public interpretation.

The development has sparked mixed reactions across social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), where some users questioned the accuracy of the bus stop’s former name and the lack of community input. Some argued that the location was traditionally known as Second Pedro Bus Stop, while others viewed the renaming as politically motivated.

Nonetheless, many supporters of Olamide see the gesture as a well-deserved honour for one of Bariga’s most celebrated sons—an artiste whose influence has shaped Nigeria’s music scene and inspired a generation.
