Country music star teams up with Burna Boy, says Nigeria is in his blood
Taking to his X handle, American country music star Collins Obinna Chibueze, popularly known as Shaboozey, expressed deep pride in his Nigerian heritage as he announced the release of his new song featuring Burna Boy.
“This one feels like a homecoming. Virginia raised me, but Nigeria will always be in my blood — now I get to share that with the world alongside my brother @burnaboy. ‘Change Your Mind’ drops tonight. Grateful, honored, and hope y’all love this song as much as we do!” he posted.
Though born and raised in Virginia, the 29-year-old artist has never hidden his Nigerian roots. He was born on May 9, 1995, in Woodbridge, Virginia, to Nigerian immigrant parents, and proudly embraces both his African and American identity.
Shaboozey began his music journey in 2014 with his debut single ‘Jeff Gordon’. A decade later, he shot to global fame after being featured on two songs from Beyoncé’s 2024 album Cowboy Carter.
His massive hit, A Bar Song (Tipsy), has since made history by tying with Lil Nas X’s Old Town Road as the longest-running No.1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, solidifying his place among music’s elite.
Now, teaming up with Burna Boy, Shaboozey appears ready to further bridge the cultural gap between his Nigerian roots and American stardom.
