Adeleke Lands in U.S. for Davido’s Wedding – Nigerians React

LagosExplorer reports: Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has travelled to the United States to attend the white wedding of Nigerian music superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido. The trip, confirmed by his media team.

Governor Adeleke, who is Davido’s uncle, reportedly left the country “a few days ago” aboard the family’s private jet. This comes ahead of the singer’s high-profile white wedding to Chioma Rowland, set to take place in the United States after the couple’s widely publicized traditional wedding in Lagos.

According to a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the trip is not an official vacation, but a brief private visit for a major family event. Rasheed emphasized that the governor has not taken any official leave since assuming office in November 2022.

> “Governor Adeleke remains committed to his duties and is in regular contact with Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who is effectively overseeing state matters in his absence,” Rasheed said.

Political Reactions and Public Debate

The governor’s absence did not go unnoticed by the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), which questioned his two-week disappearance and demanded to know whether the proper constitutional handover of power had occurred. In a statement earlier this week, the party accused Adeleke of abandoning governance for luxury travel.

> “Osun people deserve transparency. Where is the governor and under what authority is the deputy acting?” the APC said in a strongly worded release.

In a swift response, Rasheed dismissed the opposition’s claims as “hypocritical,” pointing out that the APC often remains silent when similar absences happen under its own leadership at the national or state level.

> “It is amusing that the APC, which overlooks prolonged absences of their leaders, is now pretending to be defenders of constitutional procedure,” Rasheed retorted. “We even invite them to celebrate with us—physically or virtually.”

Davido’s Big Day and Its National Buzz

Davido, one of Africa’s biggest music exports and known for global hits like “Fall,” “If,” and “Unavailable,” is not just a cultural icon but a source of pride for many Nigerians. His relationship with Chioma, also known as Chef Chi, has captured public imagination for years—marked by highs, controversies, and a shared tragedy after they lost their son in 2022.

Their U.S. wedding has attracted global interest, with reports suggesting a guest list featuring politicians, celebrities, and international dignitaries. Governor Adeleke’s attendance reinforces the tight bond between family and fame in Nigeria’s elite circles.
