Blackout Looms: Lagos, Ogun Residents to Face Nine-Hour Daily Power Outage for 25 Days
Residents of Lagos and parts of Ogun State are set to endure daily power interruptions spanning nine hours, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) begins maintenance work on a major transmission line.
According to a public notice issued by the TCN, the planned outage will last from Monday, July 28 to Thursday, August 21, 2025, affecting the 330kV transmission line linking Omotosho and Ikeja West.
The maintenance will see affected areas experience power cuts between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily, a development that has raised concerns among households and businesses already grappling with unreliable power supply.
Electricity distribution companies, including Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), have alerted customers of the temporary disruptions, noting that the scheduled works are necessary to improve service reliability in the long run.
Speaking on TVC on Monday, the Chief Executive Officer of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Sunday Oduntan, confirmed that the power disruption would affect the entire Lagos metropolis and parts of Ogun State such as Sagamu, Ogijo, Abeokuta, and surrounding areas.
In a notice, Ikeja Electric explained that the maintenance exercise had received official approval from the National Control Centre (NCC), the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and the System Operator, assuring that normal supply will resume once the upgrade is completed.
While the move is expected to strengthen grid stability and reduce future breakdowns.
Both distribution companies have appealed for patience, pledging to manage load shedding and restore power as soon as possible each day.
