Akande Blasts Adeleke’s Defection Plot as Betrayal of Conscience
Former Osun State Governor and pioneer APC National Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, has condemned the speculated defection of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing it as politically reckless, morally questionable, and strategically unwise.
Akande, in a strongly worded statement on Sunday, said Adeleke’s rumoured move is not only ill-conceived but an insult to APC loyalists in Osun State who have stayed true to the party's ideals through thick and thin. He warned that accepting Adeleke into the APC fold, especially before the 2026 governorship election, would send a wrong signal to members and undermine the party’s internal democracy.
The APC elder statesman expressed disappointment that the ruling party could even consider welcoming a sitting PDP governor without first consulting its grassroots structures in Osun. He insisted that Adeleke should face the electorate in 2026 under his current party’s platform if he truly believes in his popularity.
According to Akande, such political cross-carpeting, without ideological alignment, erodes public trust and portrays politics as a game of personal survival rather than public service. He also cautioned the APC leadership against turning the party into a sanctuary for political opportunists seeking safe landing after losing grip of their original platforms.
He noted that Adeleke’s potential entry into the APC without due process would disrupt party cohesion and dishonour the efforts of those who built the structure with sacrifice and vision.
