Bloodbath in Kebbi

Terror in Kebbi: Bandits Slay Three Policemen in Brutal Ambush

Kebbi State was thrown into mourning on Saturday night as suspected Lakurawa bandits launched a deadly ambush along the Birnin Kebbi–Argungu road, killing three police officers in cold blood. The attack, which occurred during a police response to a distress call, left the state’s security architecture rattled and residents gripped with fear.

According to the police spokesperson in the state, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the officers came under heavy gunfire from the assailants, believed to be from a heavily armed criminal gang notorious for terrorising border communities. The officers, in an attempt to repel the sudden onslaught, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, but three of them were fatally hit.

Governor Nasir Idris, in a swift reaction, condemned the attack and expressed his deep sorrow over the loss. He extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers and vowed that the state would not rest until the killers are brought to justice. The police command also assured residents that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible, with reinforcements deployed to strengthen surveillance in the area.

The tragic incident adds to a series of violent escalations linked to the Lakurawa group, whose operations have increasingly threatened stability in Kebbi and nearby regions. Security agencies are now under pressure to intensify their offensive against armed groups that have continued to undermine national peace and security.
