Jandor Declares PDP Dead in Lagos Politics
Former Lagos governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has issued a damning verdict on the Peoples Democratic Party’s prospects in the state, declaring it incapable of ever defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress.
Speaking shortly after casting his vote in Irewe, Ojo Local Government Area, during the local government elections on Saturday, Jandor described the PDP as disconnected from the grassroots and politically irrelevant in the state. According to him, the party’s long-standing failure to build structures at the local level has left it invisible in communities across Lagos.
He stated that this disconnect is what has repeatedly made it impossible for the PDP to challenge the APC, which, he noted, has embedded itself deeply within the grassroots over the years. “You can’t defeat a party that lives among the people when your own presence is only felt during elections,” he said pointedly.
Jandor, who recently defected to the APC, said his decision was driven by the need to align with a platform that has continuity, reach, and impact. He praised President Bola Tinubu for laying the foundational political structures that continue to guarantee the APC’s dominance in Lagos, adding that his move was aimed at supporting and building on those legacies.
During his visit to Ojo, he commended the outgoing local government administrators for implementing development projects that touched the lives of ordinary residents. He urged the newly elected officials to consolidate on those achievements and prioritise effective governance.
To round off his visit, Jandor paid a courtesy call on the traditional ruler of Irewe, Oba Abideen Adikanbi Durosimi, reaffirming his respect for traditional institutions and his commitment to grassroots engagement.
With this public declaration, Jandor has not only reaffirmed his departure from the PDP but also sent a clear message to the opposition: in Lagos, the APC remains firmly in control.
