Adeleke’s Exit Looms as PDP Caucus Bows to Pressure, Davido Stirs Speculation
The political atmosphere in Osun State is reaching a boiling point as Governor Ademola Adeleke edges closer to dumping the Peoples Democratic Party, with clear backing from the party’s caucus. A fresh twist emerged following a statement issued late Saturday by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, confirming that the PDP caucus gave their full support for the governor’s possible move to the All Progressives Congress during a closed-door meeting held on Thursday in Osogbo, the state capital.
The meeting, which took place at the Government House, was attended by top PDP stakeholders including Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, Senate Deputy Minority Leader Lere Oyewumi, former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Speaker of the House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun, serving commissioners, lawmakers, and several PDP council chairmen. In a dramatic show of loyalty, the caucus not only passed a vote of confidence in Adeleke but also vowed to stand with him wherever he goes politically.
Adding fuel to the growing speculation, Adeleke’s nephew and global music icon Davido released a video laced with political undertones. The visuals featured subtle references to a broom—strongly associated with the APC—and a lyrical message that many interpret as a nod to the governor’s next political destination. The timing and content of the video have only intensified rumours of a looming defection.
Though Adeleke has yet to officially announce his exit from the PDP, the weight of endorsement from his party’s inner circle has left little to the imagination. According to Rasheed, the caucus urged the governor to continue his consultations at both the state and national levels as he prepares to make a decisive political move.
With Osun PDP leaders already aligning behind him and public hints coming from unexpected quarters, Adeleke’s potential defection is shaping up to be one of the most significant political realignments in recent Nigerian history.
