Yul Edochie Demands Igbo Presidency in 2027
Nollywood actor and former presidential aspirant, Yul Edochie, has reignited calls for Nigeria’s next president to emerge from the South-East, insisting that the region deserves a shot at the nation’s top office in the spirit of justice and equity.
In a post on his official Instagram page on Sunday, July 21, 2025, Edochie wrote, “It’s the turn of the South East to produce the next president. If truly we want to live as one Nigeria. Equity and fairness.” He followed up with a rhetorical question: “Is it that the South East is not part of Nigeria?”
Edochie is not new to the political space. He had previously declared interest in running for president. On January 7, 2021, during his 39th birthday, he posted via his social media handles: “This year I ask for your grace oh Lord as I prepare to run for President of Nigeria in 2023… The youths deserve a chance to fix our Nation.” He later reinforced this aspiration in March 2021, tweeting, “I will be the best President Nigeria has ever had. YUL EDOCHIE 2023. #givetheyouthsachance.”
According to him, since the return of democracy in 1999, the South-East has not been given a fair chance at the presidency, despite its consistent participation in national development. He argued that allowing a candidate from the region to lead would help promote unity and a sense of belonging among all Nigerians.
Edochie maintained that national peace and stability depend on inclusive leadership and balanced representation across all geopolitical zones.
