Ogun Govt Sets Up Powerful Administrative Council for Ijebu Ode Transition

The Ogun State Government has officially constituted an administrative body to oversee the affairs of Ijebu Ode during the transition period following the vacant Awujale stool. The move, according to Governor Dapo Abiodun, is aimed at safeguarding the revered traditions of the ancient kingdom while ensuring stability and continuity until a new Awujale is installed.

Governor Abiodun, in his statement, emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and the preservation of cultural heritage. He stressed that the people of Ijebuland must rally around the administrative body to safeguard peace, unity, and harmony across the land. He further appealed to indigenes at home and in the diaspora to give their full support, describing the process as a collective responsibility.

The governor also called on citizens to remain law-abiding and peaceful as the state works closely with traditional institutions to maintain order throughout the sensitive succession process.

The newly formed body will superintend administrative and traditional responsibilities and is chaired by Chief Folorunso Sunny Kuku (Ilamuren). Other members include Chief Oluwaranti Lekan Osifeso (Madassa), Chief Stephen Bakare Oluwalogbon (Ilamuren), Chief Bisola Oluneye Okuboyejo (Ilamuren), Chief Funmilola Okunowo (Ilamuren), Prof. Jide Ajayi (Ilamuren), Chief Tunde Odulaja (Pampa), Chief Abimbola Okenla (Pampa), Chief Agboola Alausa (Pampa), Chief (Mrs.) Adebisi Oshibogun (Pampa), and Chief Adebisi Adaran (Gbeden, Ogbogeni Odi).

This decisive action follows the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the revered Awujale of Ijebuland, on July 13, 2025, at the age of 91. His death marked the end of a remarkable 65-year reign, during which he was a significant figure in Yoruba traditional leadership. The entire city of Ijebu Ode observed a period of mourning, with silent rituals preparing the late monarch’s return to his ancestors. The Ogun State government, in collaboration with the Awujale Chiefs in Council, has since initiated the process of selecting a new Awujale to continue the legacy of leadership and cultural preservation.
