LagosExplorer reports that award-winning Nigerian music video director, ThankGod Omori Jesam, popularly known as TG Omori, has stunned fans with a revelation about the staggering cost of his recent medical treatment. The creative powerhouse, who has directed some of the most iconic visuals in Afrobeats, disclosed that his health expenses in just six months could have comfortably bought two Mercedes-Benz GLE SUVs and a Mercedes-Benz C300.
The filmmaker took to X to share his frustration, writing: “Saw my 6 months health expenses, Omo 2 GLE and one small C300 bro! Health is wealth true true.” The disclosure has since sparked heated conversations about the soaring cost of healthcare in Nigeria, especially for those battling chronic illnesses.
TG Omori’s health struggles became public knowledge in August 2024 when he successfully underwent a kidney transplant at St. Nicholas Hospital in Lagos. The life-saving surgery was made possible by his only brother, who donated one of his kidneys. Since then, the director has been on a strict post-surgery medical routine that requires heavy financial commitment.
His statement has also thrown light on the harsh reality facing many Nigerians.
While he could afford treatment abroad and at top private hospitals, thousands of citizens on the minimum wage of about ₦70,000 find it nearly impossible to keep up with dialysis, which costs over ₦100,000 per session, often three times a week. This has fueled renewed debate on the urgent need for reforms in Nigeria’s health sector.
