LagosExplorer reports: A staff member of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Mr. Omoniyi Eleyinmi, has been abducted by gunmen in Supare-Akoko, Ondo State, in what appears to be a targeted attack that has again stirred public anxiety over insecurity in the region.
The incident occurred on Monday evening around 7:00 p.m. at his private residence located along the Akungba-Supare Road. Eleyinmi, who serves as a faculty officer in the Faculty of Education and is a notable member of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), was said to have arrived home while the gunmen were still at the scene.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the assailants stormed the area firing sporadically into the air to disperse and intimidate residents before making their way into Eleyinmi’s residence. He was reportedly overpowered and taken away by the armed men. His wife, who was inside the house during the invasion, narrowly escaped harm.
Following the incident, concerned locals promptly reported the matter to the police. When contacted, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the incident and assured that investigations were ongoing. “We are on the case, and efforts are underway to ensure the safe rescue of the victim,” he stated.
However, as of press time, there has been no official update on Eleyinmi's whereabouts or progress in the investigation.
This latest abduction has reignited fears among residents, particularly in the Akoko axis of Ondo State, which has witnessed several troubling security breaches in recent times.
