2 Top LASU Lecturers Sacked Over ₦10.6M Fraud, Sexual Harassment

LagosExplorer reports that Lagos State University (LASU) has taken the unexpected decision to sack two prominent lecturers following allegations tied to academic misconduct.

While the university’s administration remains tight-lipped on full details, sources within the institution indicate that the dismissals are connected to purportedly unauthorized handling and distribution of sensitive academic documents—an issue that has long stirred controversy on campus.

The move comes amid growing pressure from both the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and community stakeholders, who argue that LASU's leadership has applied disciplinary measures unevenly. Critics point to the reinstatement of other lecturers previously accused of similar offences, citing what they label as inconsistent standards of justice. Local community groups and ASUU chapters have since appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to review the dismissals and direct full reinstatement, including back pay and restored seniority.

This latest development adds to the ongoing saga dating back to 2019, when a batch of ASUU-LASU officials—including chairpersons and secretaries—were dismissed over alleged security breaches involving confidential records. Despite vindicating committees and a 2022 governing council vote recommending reinstatement, implementation has been stalled by an embargo tied to the pending White Paper from a visitation panel. Now, with two more senior faculty removed, voices from students, parents, and academic bodies are intensifying calls for transparency, fairness, and resolution, as LASU grapples with restoring trust and academic integrity.
