The Kano State House of Assembly has condemned the failed five-kilometre road contract in Gabasawa Local Government Area, recommending its immediate revocation or a comprehensive upgrade following a flood disaster in Zakirai Community.
Lawmakers reached the decision after adopting a report by the House Committee on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation. Presenting the report during plenary, committee chairman Sule Shuwaki urged the state government to compel the contractor to expand the drainage system in the area to prevent future flooding.
The House also called on the government to urgently send relief materials to flood victims while directing experts from the ministries of works and environment to conduct a technical assessment of the affected area.
Additional motions adopted by the House included the construction of the Dalawada–Gazobi Road in Tudun Wada LGA and the reconstruction of the Fanisau–Ungogo Road, as lawmakers intensified calls for urgent infrastructural attention across the state.
In a separate motion, the House unanimously demanded the reconstruction of the dilapidated road linking Kwanar ‘Yan Mota, Kwanar Bakin Zuwo, Jakara, and Kwanar Gabari in Kano Municipal LGA. The motion, sponsored by Aliyu Yusuf Daneji, highlighted the terrible state of the road near the Kasuwar Kurmi Market, which has disrupted both movement and commercial activities in the area.
During the same session, another lawmaker, Abdullahi Yahaya, raised concern over the poor condition of the road connecting Jogana to Matallawa, Yamadi Charo, and Daraudau. He lamented that during the rainy season, residents are forced to fill potholes with sand and wooden planks just to make the road passable. His motion received the full support from the chamber and backed by the Chief Whip, Zakariyya Nuhu.
