Kano Governor Sacks Top Officials in Drug, Grain Scandal

LagosExplorer reports that Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has sacked two senior aides after separate investigative panels found them guilty of misconduct in high-profile cases that have stirred public outrage.

Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, lost his position after admitting before a government panel that he was responsible for securing the controversial bail of notorious drug baron Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu. The governor directed him to return all government property in his possession no later than August 11, 2025, and warned him against parading himself as an official of the current administration.

In a similar move, Tasiu Adamu Al’amin Roba, Senior Special Assistant in the Cabinet Office, was removed from office following his arrest in connection with the alleged repackaging and diversion of palliative food grains from a government warehouse in 2024. He now faces charges of theft and criminal conspiracy. The governor also instructed him to hand over all government assets, including his official identity card, by the same deadline.

However, the Special Adviser on Drainages, Musa Ado Tsamiya, who had also faced allegations, was cleared by his own investigative panel and exonerated of all wrongdoing.

Governor Yusuf described the dismissals as a clear demonstration of his administration’s zero tolerance for corruption, warning public officials to uphold discipline, transparency, and integrity in the discharge of their duties.

“The general public are advised not to engage the two sacked political appointees on any matter related to the Kano State Government. Anyone who does so does it at their own risk,” the statement cautioned.
